Our stewardship program maintains the physical assets of the neighborhoods by employing young people from Olneyville and Elmwood to clean neglected street corners and sidewalks, oversee commercial districts, and mitigate the impacts of illegal dumping on our streets. In addition, these young people handle all of the landscaping for ONE Neighborhood Builders’ properties. This portion of the program has grown into ONE Neighborhood Works, a social enterprise looking to provide our services to the residents and businesses of the greater Providence area. Check out our facebook page to see what we have been working on lately.
Alongside our youth employment initiative, the Stewardship Program keeps track of problem properties—working with a network of city officials to try and resolve these issues negatively affecting the neighborhood.
In the summer of 2012, ONE NB launched its Square One Initiative to promote economic development in Olneyville Square. We are working with businesses and property owners in the Square to develop consistent marketing and branding, implement capital projects in the area such as façade and streetscape improvements, and to enhance maintenance of the Square. Working with a team of marketing and communications consultants, a new logo and website were created to develop a unified identity for Olneyville Square.
In all capacities, the Stewardship Program is a visible, active presence at work in the neighborhood, constantly showing that Olneyville and Elmwood are clean, safe, and welcoming communities.
